I'm going through my music videotapes from the 1980s and posting things that I don't find here currently. Maybe only one or two people might be looking for some of these, but those people should be very happy. The American Broadcasting Company used to have a show back in the 80s called "Kids Are People Too" that had some surprising guests. Patti appeared on it with Joe Brooks and sang his song "You Light Up My Life".

i was thinking the same thing...hahahaha....rock n roll baby! But she did him a favor, to have her choose to sing his song. Next she's gonna sing, "Horses"...or "Rock n Roll Nigger"....haha. 5 stars all the way for this video. Thanks very posting.

must be me imagining things, the dude who wrote the song/playing accompaniment gives her some strange looks, probably wondering why she soesn't sing it like Debbie Boone

This just kills me, I remember sitting on a sunday morning watching this as a teen and thinking she was so totally cool. Years earlier, I remember her playing the Soap Factory and one of my older neighbors was a huge fan. I remember being pissed I was so young Wasn't this in '79 though (as she makes reference to the year)? I was about 13 when I saw this. The show was cheezy but how can ya beat Patti singing this?!?! Love her!

I always despised this idiotic, sappy song...till I heard Patti sing it and now, for me it is beautiful. Long live Patti, she is a spark of hope for us.

Patti's diversity is proof that passion equals passion, no matter the style or medium. How beautiful is that?

Look at Patti....singing out hope at a world that is so lost and indifferent, she shines and shines!!!!!! How can fools listen to divas full of self-adoration and vote for liars who promote their own interests when there are people like her in this world?

This is just beautiful! I think, of all the things I've seen on YouTube, this is my favorite. Funny, I never cared much for this song when I was a kid. Since I first saw this clip, everyone I've told about it has reacted the same way: "Wait....it's Patti Smith singing WHAT?!?"

Those saying she's not punk are just idiots. This clip is awesome on so many levels. "Stay tuned for Count Dracula and Adam Rich" ...after Patti Smith! So glad I was alive in '79!

Glad to have made it available. I'm amazed at the number of people who seem to assume that, to be "punk", one must also be cynical. But in truth hope and optimism are far more radical.

That was really good. I wonder if the guys from R.E,M. have seen this. I know that at least Michael Stipe is a huge {atti Smith fan.

Brilliant! I thought it was cute/funny how she forgot the words, then ran over to Joe Brooks to ask him the words...hehe. Thanks many for uploading. I get teary eyed everytime I listen to the song.
